Jakarta, August 2026 — Indonesia has taken a major step toward accelerating renewable energy development with the official launch of a 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) program by President Prabowo Subianto.
The program was launched in Bali on 25 August 2026 and is positioned as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s energy security and achieve greater energy independence. The government is targeting the development of 100 GWp of solar power capacity within three years.
The initial phase involves 14 solar power projects across six provinces, with a combined capacity of approximately 53 GWp. The scale of the program is significant considering Indonesia’s total installed electricity generation capacity is currently around 88 GW from various energy sources.
Beyond increasing renewable electricity generation, the program is expected to create opportunities across the wider solar and energy ecosystem, including solar PV manufacturing and deployment, inverters, electrical equipment, EPC services, energy management, grid infrastructure and energy storage.
The economic potential is also substantial. Recent reports estimate the 100 GW solar program could involve investment of around US$73 billion, or approximately Rp1,140 trillion. The development is therefore expected to create a significant market for companies involved in renewable energy technology, infrastructure and supporting services.
The development of large-scale solar generation also highlights the growing importance of smart energy systems and energy storage. As solar generation expands, technologies that support energy management, grid integration, storage and efficient power utilization will become increasingly important in building a more flexible and reliable energy system.
